 Episode 313

Talia Lavor has been so kind and given me permission to release the podcast that we did together when I was a guest on her show – The Health Uncensored Podcast

We talk in detail about a medical condition that affects breastfeeding women and is not well know:  Insufficient Glandular Tissue (IGT)

Here are some of the topics we discuss:

  1. We talk about the inner workings of the breast and what lobules and ducts are and how this affects how the breasts make milk.
  2. We talk about the areola and the size and shape of breast tissue and how we differ from each other.
  3. Markers for IGT – long tubular breasts that are not full and round.  Breasts that are widely spaced.  Areolas that are out of proportion with the size of the breast tissue.
  4. Listening to your gut and paying attention to what your intuition is telling you.
  5. Risk Factors for IGT – Hormonal influence – estrogen and progesterone – imbalance of these hormones can affect your ability to produce milk and make enough milk for your baby.  These hormones are also responsible for conception.   – Toxins which are endocrine disruptors.  Exposures that we had during our mothers pregnancy.  Irregular menstrual cycles.  Medications/hormones that you might take.  These and other medical issues that impact the glandular tissue
  6. We talked about how helpful this information is for all women to know.  Even if you don’t need this information for your breastfeeding experience, you are learning how learning about the breast tissue growth and variations can lead you to understanding a medical condition that you or a family or friend might have.
  7. Each One, Teach One – you can be a great help to others just by sharing this information.   Perhaps you have a daughter – you may be able to recognize a potential health issue and be the one to increase her awareness.
  8. Look forward to Part 2 where we really get into other aspects of IGT and how it affects breastfeedings.
