 Episode 100      Lori  Milestones and Memories

In today’s show, I am going to reminisce a bit and talk about my experiences as the host of this podcast and relive some memories that Ihave shared with guests. I am also going to fill you in on what you can expect from Season 2 of All About Breastfeeding. At the end of the show, I am going to explain to you how you can win some really cool prizes.

It is one of those things that it is hard to believe I have recorded 100 shows. That is one the one hand. On the other hand, it is easy for me to believe I have recorded 100 shows. The reason for this is that recording interviews has sure added to my work load. Keeping up with my Full time job as a private lactation consultant adding in another Part Time job as host of this show, has surely kept me extra busy. In the beginning my family wondered what the heck I was doing all the time. The only person who really “got it” was my husband, and that is because he has been my partner in crime. It is his shoulders I go to cry on when I messed up one of my earliest interviews. I was new at this and had interviewed a very well known person & somehow messed up the recording. I still am not sure what I did, however, it was bad, bad, bad. Imagine me having to go to this person and say in a very meek and mild voice – Can we redo this? I was incredibly embarrassed and waited a month to ask her and then she was very gracious and Thank goodness she easily said yes.

Then there was the time when I messed up again. And this was only a few weeks apart. Every feel like you want to give up? On something you really wanted? Well, that was me! I am a fighter and don’t give up easily and yet I just thought… ughhh… me and technology just don’t jive to well. Put me in a room with someone and I am great. Add computers and software programs and microphones and audit and editing into the picture…. Well, it can all wear me down…. to there is nothing left. I told myself, if this person says No to being re-interviewed, that is it! I am throwing in the towel. I guess I picked a good person to screw up the interview with. She understands the industry as she has worked in the field of film and editing. We have also become good friends and I am not quite sure that would have happened had I not screwed up and bared my sole to her. Eve Hurwitz is on the Board of Directors of the Milky Way Foundation and the ASSOCIATE PRODUCER of the Milky Way, which is a documentary expose about breastfeeding in the United States. I talk about a few other interviews that may not have gone so well or that have been quite entertaining.

On another note as I reflect on my first year of podcasting.

I often relate many of life experiences, that have nothing to do with motherhood and yet I find a way in my mommy brain, to make it have everything to do with motherhood. I have learned that podcasting is a lot like motherhood. You enter into this space with no experience, you are thrust into a life that you had no idea you would judge yourself so much (and others would be so judgy of you.. who knew)?? As you muddle about trying to figure it all out ( they said it is easy and it looked like no big deal from the outside) LOL, usually in a sleep deprived state ( usually not getting to podcasting duties til the late evening and pulling many all nighters), you feel like you are under a microscope, so vulnerable for the rest of the world to see ( in this case, no one is seeing all the tears from my new motherhood days, but you are hearing all my flubs on air) and here you are…..just waiting for the day where you begin to feel – I am finding my groove. I think I can do this. Which at some point you tell yourself – I am doing this. And it may not all be perfect, but it is good enough. Many moons ago, I decided to give myself a break and decide I was the good enough mother ( it was that acceptance or put myself away in a padded room) and now almost a year into podcasting, I have decided that I am a good enough podcaster. ( again another choice to accept this or put away my microphone and fade away). Just as we look back on that very first year of our babies life and see how far we have come, how much we have grown, how much we have learned, humbly acknowledge how much more there is to learn and how big our baby has gotten and how excited we are for the future, I do the same with the AAB podcast. 100 shows later is a time for reflection on I how far I have come, I have grown so much in this space, learned so much humbly acknowledge that I am just beginning and how much more there is to learn, how big this baby, AAB has become with thousands of people listening to this show every month, and spreading to XXX countries and yes, I am very excited for what the future holds in the podcasting world.

I have taken note of the shows that are the most requested and listened to most. In the Facebook Community Page, I asked what shows would you like to see more of and the top answer was educational shows. I have categorized them and put them into what I am going to call Popular Shows. I have kept in mind your request to have more educational shows and this is the first grouping you will see – Educational Shows. Currently I have put together a group of shows I did on Pumping and Preparing to go back to work. Another group is Authors I have interviewed. Another group will be Midwives and Doulas. So many have asked about the shows I have recorded on the subject of tongue ties, so I am going to group together all these shows. When it is all completed and ready to roll, I will announce this on the show.

Speaking of Season 2 with the addition of the Most Popular Shows, I am so crazy excited to offer some crazy good interviews. There will be a few more authors that are in the breastfeeding, mothering, birthing field that you are going to be dy-no-mite! We are going to have 3 shows a week this season. Mondays shows will continue to be interviews. I have something fun and exciting for Wednesdays and will keep this quiet until the first Wednesday show of the Season. You asked for more educational shows and I have listened. Fridays will be educational with me answering some of your most Frequently Asked Questions. Getting feedback from you the listeners, has been extremely valuable in helping me plan for Season 2, so thank you so much for responding to emails and to the Facebook poll and locally I meet moms who have offered feedback! What a wonderful community we are building.
